Joyce Tenneson

//People are the center of my work and I’ll always be interested in their inner life. Its what is below the surface that continues to fascinate me.//

Joyce Tenneson was born in Weston, Massachusetts and currently resides and works in Maine, US.

Joyce Tenneson is considered among the ten most influential female photographers in the history of photography. Her luminous and unique 20×24 inch Polaroids and vintage gelatin silver prints emanate a poignant mystical sensibility.

Her latest work evolves from sensual and mythical beauty of the nude bringing forth mystical beauty of the trees. Her ‘Trees of Life’ images are infused with gold leaf. Tenneson´s love of nature and trees is reminiscent of her first museum exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC.

Her photographs have appeared on countless magazine covers, including Time, Life, Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, Premiere, Esquire and The New York Times Magazine. She is the recipient of many awards, including the International Center of Photography’s Infinity Award for Best Applied Photography.

Tenneson’s photographs have been shown in over 150 exhibitions worldwide, she has authored fifteen books, and her work is included in numerous private and museum collections. The exhibition ‘Light Warriors’ – curated by PUG – will open at Fotografiska in Stockholm on September 18th 2014.
